    Creating an easy updo

An updo adds style and elegance to any outfit – but it doesn't have to be difficult or time consuming! Follow the simple steps below to create a textured chignon that's super chic and easy peasy.

    1

Use a wand to create soft, tousled waves

If your hair doesn't have a natural wave, you can add some loose curls through the mid-lengths and ends to add body and movement.

Apply salt spray to the lengths and scrunch to add texture

As it dries, a salt spray will loosen your curls and give them texture, which is perfect for creating a tousled updo. Scrunch it through the ends and allow five minutes for it to dry.

Massage dry shampoo into the roots of your crown

For adding volume, dry shampoo is a hairdresser's insider secret - honest! Apply to the roots in layers, starting at your crown and moving backwards towards the nape of your neck. Massage with your fingers to get rid of any tell-tale white powder and really give your roots a boost.

Smooth and secure at the nape of your neck

Use your fingers to smooth and gather your volumised locks to the nape of your neck, then push upwards slightly to accentuate the bouffant. Secure with a hair tie.

Use a tail comb to loosen the front and add extra height

Pull some tendrils loose at the front of your updo to soften the look and frame your face. A tail comb is fantastic for controlling the height of your bouffant - simply insert the tail at the crown and gently lift. You can go as high as you like.

    Loosely plait the ponytail

Ever wondered how you create a fancy knot? Well, we know a cheat - simply plait the hair before you wind your bun. When wrapped around itself, this creates a chic knotted effect and looks complicated and professional (we won't tell if you don't!)

    7

Wind around the base and secure with hair grips

Wind the plait up and over your ponytail and secure underneath the hair tie with a grip, you'll see the knotted effect take shape. Wrap it twice if your hair is long but keep it loose so you maintain a relaxed finish.

    Finish with hairspray

Use your fingers to tweak the knot to your preferred shape and finish with hairspray for all-night hold. Voila! All that's left to do is slip into your trusty LBD and you're ready to party.
